Cardiac Rehab Support in association with Worthing and Southlands hospitals provide a "Buddy" service as part of the development of services for cardiac patients in the local area.

A number of ex-cardiac rehab patients and carers have signed up as hospital volunteers and received training to support their role as cardiac buddies. A visit from a buddy will be offered to those patients who are admitted to the wards following a heart problem. Often a patient will find it easier to talk to someone who has had a similar previous experience. It is reassuring to see someone who has a similar condition but who looks fit and well and has returned to normal life.

The buddies also help out by attending the Worthing and Southlands Cardiac Rehabilitation classes and help to make patients feel more at ease about exercise. In addition to this service on the wards we also provide telephone support and can meet up with patients in the cardiac rehab clinics by pre-arrangement.
